A brand new technology will be hitting the market this year. Just when the price of a flat screen dropped to an affordable price scientists invented something new that everyone is going to want. Except for the affordable part. If you have the bucks though. Here is why you should be excited. The Organic light-emitting diode (Oled). The Future is here! Oled is the most advanced addition to the television set in over ten years. The newest thing since the introduction of both LED and Plasma.

…And boy it’s really something to be excited about.

Technically unless you’re into TV technology you probably won’t understand this but here it is. Oleds secret is that they pour electricity through certain materials that make the red, green and blue light actually glow. It’s something that no other TV technology utilizes in the same way. Might sound a little confusing but the companies don’t really go into great detail explaining it. You have to really see it to understand it. It is really quite beautiful. I could give you more tech that you probably won’t really understand, trust me though when I tell you that no other TV technology creates an image like this one.

The new technology also allows OLED TVs to be thinner, lighter, and more efficient than any other TV technology. LG’s 55-inch weighs only 16.5 pounds and is only 3/16 of an inch thick. Each and every pixel can be completely shut off giving you much richer blacks. This little feature gives you an almost unlimited contrast ratio which is a really big deal. OLED is really a dream come true. Incredible contrast ratio, incredibly thin, and incredibly energy efficient.

So what’s wrong with them? A new technology always seems to have some flaws. How long will your new OLED TV last? Well here’s more good news. Although the blue is the first color to die on most TV’s an OLED TV has the color paired with the yellow which ensures much more longevity to the picture. LG is claiming a life span of over 50,000 hours. In most cases this is longer than any conventional TV and will probably outlast the other components. Figure if you watch six hours of TV a day and you’re forty years old, you won’t see any deterioration in your picture until you sixty two years old. I’m sixty two and already have a set of reading glasses and a set of regular glasses. In fact this may be the last TV you have to buy. Who knows in 22 years they may be directly implanting a TV right in your brain.
